Parts
____________________________________________________________
Vintage Lock™ (patent pending) is a system that
prevents wine from oxidizing due to exposure by air. Below
you will find a description of each of the components
of the Vintage Lock™ system and see just
how easy it is to use Vintage Lock™. |
|
Stopper
The Vintage Lock™ stopper
(left) has a thumb-operated valve on top and a fitting
for the Vintage Lock™ bag on the bottom.
The bag and stopper are inserted as a unit into a
wine bottle as soon as it is opened. The stopper
is made of polyethylene plastic and stainless steel.
Both are FDA approved materials and will not affect
the taste of the wine. A hole can be found on
the side of the stopper that is the opening for
the air duct that allows air to flow freely into the
Vintage Lock™ air bag. |
|
Air
bag
The
Vintage Lock™ bag (right) is an airtight disposable
bag that traps all of the air, that enters a wine
bottle when pouring, and keeps it away from the wine.
This limits the amount of air in direct contact with
the wine and results in reduced oxidation of the wine.
The Vintage Lock™ bag is made of polyethylene,
an FDA approved material, and taste tests have shown
that the bag will not affect the taste of the wine.
The Vintage Lock™ bag is packaged in a sleeve
that makes it easy to insert into the bottle without
directly touching the bag.

|
Stopper with bag connected
The
Vintage Lock™ stopper and bag (pictured together at
left) are easily connected by sliding the tube
of the bag into the stopper. Once together the
bag is inserted into the wine bottle immediately after
opening. There is plenty of air space at
the top of a newly opened bottle of wine to allow
insertion of the Vintage Lock™ without overflowing. |

Using
the Vintage Lock pump |
|
Pump
The
pump (right) is not used during normal operation of
the Vintage Lock™ but is required to raise the
wine level up to the stopper when air is present in
the bottle. The two most common reasons
for air getting into the bottle are;
1)
The Vintage Lock™ is inserted after a bottle
of wine has been partially used.
2)
The valve at the top of the Vintage Lock™ is
pressed when the wine bottle is upright.
The
pump is then used to force air into the Vintage Lock™
bag until the volume of the bag displaces all of the
air in the wine bottle and brings the level of the
wine back up to the top of the bottle where it meets
the bottom of the stopper. |
|
|
There
will be times when the Vintage Lock™ air
bag will need to be manually filled to push the air
from the bottle. For example, when the Vintage
Lock™ is inserted into a partially consumed
bottle of wine there will be air in the bottle
that will need to be expelled in order for Vintage
Lock™ to work properly. Also, if the
Vintage Lock™ is in a bottle during regular use
and the valve is opened while the bottle is upright,
then air will get into the bottle and will need
to be removed. The air is removed, from the wine
bottle, by holding down the valve lever and pumping
air into the vent on the side of the Vintage Lock™
stopper (pictured upper left). When the wine
level is raised back up to the top of the bottle again,
release the valve lever and the Vintage Lock™
is again ready for normal use (pictured lower right). |
